堀岡さんとは東京藝術大学在学中から同じフィールドで制作を行っており、世界をややひねくれた視点で見るという点や、素直に正攻法で制作を行わないという点で面白い類似点があり、学生時代から奇妙なものを見つけては変態的に作品にしている様子を傍目に見つつ、互いに影響を受けてきました。
今回私は人間の周りで奇妙な状況を強いられる生き物、または人間社会の周辺で淡々と各自の生活を営む生き物を、堀岡さんは人間の生活を縁取るように自生していたり設置されていたりする生垣や軒先の鉢植えを、今回の展示作品のモチーフとして扱います。
展示名の「pause・print・pause」のpauseは、「立ち止まる、思案する、ためらう」などの意味を持ち、何事もスムーズには進まない二人のぎこちない生き方を表現できる言葉として用いました。そしてその間に入り込む、printという過程は、自分たちの歩いてきた道やたどった思考をひとまずそこに留めおいておくとても重要なものです。
また、DMのメインビジュアルはお見合い写真を模しており、似た読み方の「ポーズ（pose）」にかけた言葉遊びでもあります。2人展らしい展示ビジュアルを素直に受け入れられないの二人の作品のややぎこちないお見合いをご堪能ください。
Horioka and I have been working in the same field since we were students at Tokyo University of the Arts.
We have interesting similarities in that we see the world from a slightly twisted perspective and don't work straightforwardly. Since our student days, we have found strange things and pervert them into artworks, and have been influenced by each other.
In this show, I will use creatures forced to live in strange situations around humans or creatures that live their own lives in the periphery of human society. Horioka will use hedges and potted plants that grow naturally or are set up at the edge of human life as motifs for her works.
The word "pause" in the name of the exhibition "pause, print, pause" means "to stop, to ponder, to hesitate," and we use this word to express the awkward way of life of two people who cannot get anything done smoothly. The process of "printing" is important to keep the path we have taken, for a while.
The main visual was imitated a matchmaking photo. *The traditional portrait photo that a family of a bride took before an arranged marriage to send to a prospective groom. It is usually framed on the strange oval mat.
We also use a play on the word "pose," which has a similar reading sound.
